While UA93 and Bus #30 did not hit an obvious publicized target, an ARCH was expressed in the departure point. Final destinations were SFO San Francisco and Hackney Wick. 11/9, 11/3 and 7/7 all had one vehicle which failed to hit an obvious target. This would indicate not failure/negligence but intent by the organizers.

Narrative: Spanair flight JK 5022/LH 2554 had been cleared for takeoff on runway 36L at Madrid-Barajas (MAD). On takeoff the struck the runway and the airplane went off the runway, continuing over rough terrain. It became briefly airborne for three times after crossing due to the unevenness of the terrain. It came to rest 1200m further on near a stream. The airplane caught fire.

ZURICH, Aug. 23, 2008 (Reuters) — Swiss International Air Lines said on Saturday 23 August 2008 that flight LX 2114 from (ZRH) Zurich to (AGP) Malaga in Spain was diverted to (GVA) Geneva following a bomb threat. The Airbus A320 landed safely in Geneva. The airline later said that police found no explosive devices on the plane. "This has been a false alarm," a spokesman for the airline told Reuters.

Spanair Flight has Unscheduled Emergency Landing - Thursday 4 September 2008

MADRID - SPANAIR, the airline involved in a crash last month that killed 154 people in Madrid, had a technical problem on Thursday 4 September with one of its planes that had to make an unscheduled landing, a spokesman said. Flight JK4113 from Spain's Mediterranean holiday island of (IBZ) Ibiza, Spain to (LIS) Lisbon, Portugal with 163 passengers on board landed on the neighbouring island of Mallorca because of a still undetermined technical problem, he said. The plane left Ibiza at 0715 GMT (3.15 pm) and was diverted to (PMI) Mallorca less than an hour later. The passengers were then put on another plane to continue their journey to the Portuguese capital.

Organisers and Sponsors: The event is co-ordinated by Pakistan's Defence Export Promotion Organisation.
Principle Focus: Weapons, military vehicles and most other military equipment.

Attendance: Along with the usual suspects, North Korea, Myanmar (Burma), Zimbabwe, Iran, Sudan, China and Indonesia have all sent delegations to IDEAS, taking advantage to Pakistan's lack of circumspection over who buys its arms. US companies exhibited for the first time in 2004. Publicity after IDEAS 2002 claimed 140 companies from 20 countries exhibited, with over 20,000 trade visitors.

UK Involvement: Land Rover was the only UK-based company to exhibit at the first IDEAS in 2001, but more UK companies have exhibited in recent years.

Notes: Operating with the bizarre slogan 'Arms for Peace', IDEAS is primarily about establishing the military regime in Pakistan as a supplier in what it sees as an expanding defence market in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Since Pakistan has explicitly said it would probably only rule out Israel as a customer, IDEAS can cater to the military needs of various pariah states.

The show is not just about Pakistani weapons though, and US firms such as Lockheed Martin and Raytheon turned up in force in 2004, since Pakistan has now become a US ally in the 'war on terror'. The 2004 event was used as the occasion for the announcement that the US is now prepared to reverse its previous opposition to selling F-16 jets to Pakistan. The expo, then, is also about Pakistani procurement. Publicity also boasts of "the world's largest firing demonstration."
